The flight into Leh is one of the better approaches in Indian aviation. The plane crosses the Greater Himalayan range low enough that peaks like Stok Kangri and the Nun-Kun Massif are visible out the window. As you descend, Leh town appears below monasteries, stupas, and the Leh Palace stacked up the hillside.
On arrival, our Ladakh DMC Expeditions representative will meet you at the airport and transfer you to the hotel. Welcome tea and coffee, then the rest of the day is yours to do very little. That is the plan. Leh sits at 11,500 ft and your body needs time to adjust. Rest fully no rushing, no stairs you don't need to climb, no long walks.
Late afternoon, if you feel fine, a short drive to Shanti Stupa is worth it. The white dome sits on a ridge above town and the view over Leh at dusk is one of the better first impressions the city offers. Don't push it if your head is already complaining.
Altitude note: Drink water constantly on day one. Avoid alcohol and cigarettes for at least 48 hours. Mild headache is normal. Breathlessness on stairs is normal. If symptoms worsen, tell us immediately.
