Itinerary

  • DAY01

Arrival in Srinagar | Nishat Bagh, Shalimar Bagh & Shikara Ride on Dal Lake

On arrival at Srinagar airport, our Ladakh DMC Expeditions representative will meet you and transfer you to your houseboat or hotel on Dal Lake.

The afternoon starts with the Mughal Gardens two of the finest examples of Mughal-era garden design in India. Nishat Bagh, built in 1633 by Asaf Khan, is laid out in 12 terraces rising from the lake toward Zabarwan mountain. Shalimar Bagh, built by Emperor Jahangir for Empress Noor Jahan in 1619, is more intimate four terraced gardens with a central water channel running through them. Both are well maintained and worth walking slowly through rather than rushing.

Back at the houseboat for lunch, then out on Dal Lake for a Shikara ride in the afternoon. The lake is about 18 sq km and the flat-bottomed wooden boats cover it quietly. The surrounding mountains, the floating gardens, and the houseboats reflected in the water make this one of those experiences that photographs can't fully capture. Overnight on houseboat.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • How can I avoid altitude sickness in Ladakh?

Ladakh is at high altitudes, so acclimatization is essential. Your itinerary is designed to gradually adjust: rest after arriving in Leh (Day 3), drink plenty of water, avoid alcohol and smoking for the first 2-3 days, and move slowly during sightseeing. Oxygen cylinders are available in vehicles. Short walks, such as exploring Lamayuru Monastery or the Shanti Stupa, should only be done if you feel well.

  • What is the best time to visit Ladakh?

The ideal period is May to September. Roads from Srinagar to Leh, Nubra Valley, Pangong Lake, and Tso Moriri are fully open during this time. July and August provide the most stable weather for sightseeing, photography, and adventure activities.

  • Are permits included in the package?

Yes, all Inner Line Permits for Nubra Valley, Pangong Lake, Turtuk, and restricted areas are included. Travelers should carry original ID proof (Aadhar card, passport, or driving license). Your guide will assist with all formalities during the trip.

  • What type of accommodation is provided?

We arrange comfortable stays in hotels and camps: Srinagar (Days 1-2) in houseboats/hotels, Kargil (Day 2), Leh (Days 3 & 7), Nubra Valley (Days 4-5) in camps or hotels, and Pangong Lake (Day 6) at scenic camps. Breakfast and dinner are included at all stays. Camps are equipped with basic amenities and offer stunning views of mountains and lakes.

  • What meals are included during the tour?

Breakfast and dinner are included at all accommodations. Lunch is not included but can be arranged at local restaurants along the route (Days 1-7) on direct payment. Carry snacks and water for long drives, particularly while traveling Srinagar-Leh, Leh-Nubra, and Pangong Lake routes.

  • What should I pack for this trip?

Pack warm layers for all seasons: fleece jackets, down jackets, woolen caps, gloves, and scarves. Comfortable trekking shoes, sunscreen, sunglasses, lip balm, and personal medications are essential. Carry ID and cash since ATMs are limited in Kargil, Nubra, Turtuk, and Pangong Lake areas.
