On arrival at Srinagar airport, our Ladakh DMC Expeditions representative will meet you and transfer you to your houseboat or hotel on Dal Lake.
The afternoon starts with the Mughal Gardens two of the finest examples of Mughal-era garden design in India. Nishat Bagh, built in 1633 by Asaf Khan, is laid out in 12 terraces rising from the lake toward Zabarwan mountain. Shalimar Bagh, built by Emperor Jahangir for Empress Noor Jahan in 1619, is more intimate four terraced gardens with a central water channel running through them. Both are well maintained and worth walking slowly through rather than rushing.
Back at the houseboat for lunch, then out on Dal Lake for a Shikara ride in the afternoon. The lake is about 18 sq km and the flat-bottomed wooden boats cover it quietly. The surrounding mountains, the floating gardens, and the houseboats reflected in the water make this one of those experiences that photographs can't fully capture. Overnight on houseboat.
